Matti Wänni

According to Finnish and US records, Matti was living in Hangö (Hanko), Finland when he left for Negaunee, Michigan. He arrived at Ellis Island on May 23, 1893 aboard the Munchen from Breman, Germany. He married Fiina or Josefiina Kahma (Josephina) in Ishpeming, Michigan on February 16, 1901 and they had three sons and two daughters: Uno, Anne, Matt Jr., Mariam/Merion, and Edward. The 1930 census record indicates that Matti might have married first in 1890 back in Finland.

Matt's wife Fiina Mattsdotter Kahma was born around 1874 in Ilmajoki, Finland. She immigrated via Hangö, Finland for Negaunee, Michigan on October 21, 1899 aboard the Polaris and left Liverpool, England aboard the New England and arrived at Ellis Island in November 1899.

Kaleb Wänni

Kaleb left Pyhäjärvi, Oulun, Finland via Hangö, Finland for Negaunee, Michigan on October 1, 1889 aboard the Wasa to Hull, England and was naturalized on March 11, 1895. Kaleb never married.

His passport was dated May 16, 1905 when he left Pyhäjärvi, Oulun, Finland again via Hangö, Finland for Negaunee, Michigan on June 28, 1905 aboard the Polaris to Hull, England and then left Liverpool, England on July 4, 1905 aboard the Saxonia (Cunard Line). He arrived in Boston on July 13, 1905.

He traveled back to Negaunee via Hangö, Finland on March 11, 1911 aboard the Urania and left England on March 18, 1911 aboard the Compania (Cunard).

He returned to Negaunee one more time after visiting his mother and arrived at Ellis Island via Southampton, England aboard the Majestic on September 12, 1922.

Samuli Heikki Wänni

Samuli left Pyhäjärvi, Oulun, Finland via Hangö, Finland for Negaunee, Michigan on March 29, 1902 aboard the Arcturus to Hull, England and then left Liverpool, England aboard the Saxonia (Cunard Line) on April 8, 1902 and  arrived at Ellis Island on April 14, 1902. His passport is dated March 1902. He married Alma Marie Koskinen of Hinnerjoki or Siikainen, Turku Pori, Finland on February 13, 1912 in Negaunee, Marquette, Michigan and they had three children: Martha, Esther, and Anna Violet. At the 1910 census he was living with his sister Anna and her husband Abraham Auvinen prior to his marriage to Alma.

Anna Greta Wänni

Anna left Pyhäjärvi, Oulun, Finland via Hangö, Finland for Negaunee, Michigan on June 2, 1900 aboard the Arcturus to Hull, England and then left Liverpool, England aboard an unknown Cunard Line ship. Her passport is dated June 1, 1900. She married Aappo “Abbo or Abraham” Heikinp Auvinen of Iisalmi, Kuopio, Finland on August 19, 1905 in Negaunee, Michigan and they had two sons: Henrik and Tauno.

Anna's husband Aappo was born on June 22, 1878 in Iislami, Kuopio, Finland and immigrated to Negaunee via Hangö, Finland on November 26, 1902 aboard the Arcturus and left England aboard the Lucania (Cunard) on December 6, 1902.

Juljaana Wänni

Juljaana left Pyhäjärvi, Oulun, Finland via Hangö, Finland for Negaunee, Michigan on December 21, 1904 aboard the Arcturus to Hull, England and left Liverpool, England on December 28, 1904 aboard the Teutonic (White Star Line). She arrived at Ellis Island January 5, 1905. Her passport is dated December 20, 1904. She married Kalle Aleksi (Charles) Ruhanen of Kiuruvesi, Kuopio, Finland on April 30, 1910 in Negaunee, Michigan and they had one son: Charles W. Ruhanen.

Juljanna's husband Kalle was born on Feb 6, 1881 in Kiuruvesi, Kuopio, Finland and left for Negaunee, Michigan in 1906 and left Liverpool, England aboard the Victoria and arrived in Quebec on June 15, 1906 to meet friend J. Mattila.
